What First-Time Buyers Need to Know About Closing
Common Questions First-Time Buyers Ask—Answered
Buying your first home is a big milestone, and it’s completely normal to have a lot of questions. At Miller & Associates, we work with first-time buyers every week. These are a few of the most common questions we hear at the closing table.
1. What exactly happens at closing?
This is the moment everything becomes official. You’ll sign final documents, funds are transferred, and ownership is recorded. We walk you through each step, so nothing feels unclear.
2. How long does closing usually take?
Most closings take about 45 minutes to an hour. When everything is prepared ahead of time, it’s a smooth process.
3. Do I need to bring anything?
Yes. Bring a valid photo ID. If you’re bringing funds to closing, they should be wired ahead of time. We’ll provide a checklist in advance, so you know exactly what’s needed.
4. What if I have questions during closing?
Ask. That’s what we’re here for. We want you to feel confident and clear about what you’re signing.
5. When do I get the keys?
Usually right after closing. Once everything is complete and funds are confirmed, your agent will hand them over and it’s all yours.
Buying a home for the first time can feel overwhelming, but it should also feel exciting. Our goal is to make sure you leave the closing table feeling informed, supported, and ready to celebrate.
